Challenge
During a major redevelopment of base facilities at the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) Lombrum Naval Base on Manus Island, a decision was made to install Ansul R102 fire suppression equipment in the newly constructed combined Mess (Kitchen/Dining) Facility. Lombrum has been a strategic asset to various defence forces worldwide for many years, making fire safety a critical component of the redevelopment.
Solution
Delta Fire was engaged remotely by TEPNG to design, install and commission four Ansul R102 units for the new facility. Given the remote nature of the project, meticulous planning was required to ensure a seamless execution. The fire suppression systems were pre-installed onto the kitchen hoods at a Brisbane based manufacturing facility before being shipped to Manus Island for final assembly and commissioning.
Despite significant challenges surrounding tooling availability, freight logistics and the demanding conditions of a PNG summer, the installation was completed three days ahead of schedule. Delta Fire’s expertise and commitment ensured the project met all required safety and operational standards.
Outcome
The client and PNG Defence were highly satisfied with the final installation, recognising its value to life and property protection. The project successfully delivered a purpose-built system that met all the requirements outlined in the original brief. Additionally, the installation replaced a water mist system with a more effective and reliable Ansul R102 fire suppression system, ensuring enhanced safety for personnel and assets within the facility.
Delta Fire’s ability to execute this complex project remotely and ahead of schedule highlights its commitment to delivering high-quality fire suppression solutions, even in the most challenging environments.
