Targeted fire protection for critical electrical cabinets

Challenge

Delta Fire partnered with a fire and electrical services contractor to deliver a localised fire suppression solution for electrical switchboards and control cabinets. The objective was to protect critical equipment from fire risk while eliminating the potential for water damage, costly clean-up, and unnecessary downtime.

The end user had multiple electrical cabinets that posed a fire risk due to heat build-up and electrical faults. Traditional fire suppression methods were not suitable, as they posed challenges related to limited space, potential equipment damage and disruption to ongoing operations.

Solution

Delta Fire supplied the Automatic Miniature Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Unit (AMFE), a compact system designed specifically for enclosed high risk spaces such as electrical cabinets and switchboards.

Installed directly inside each enclosure, the AMFE system provides rapid, localised fire suppression using FK-5-1-12 clean agent gas. The system is engineered to respond quickly and effectively at the point of risk, helping contain fire before it can spread beyond the cabinet.

Key features of the solution included:

  • Automatic activation when a preset temperature is reached
  • Direct discharge of clean agent into the enclosure
  • Fast suppression at the source of the fire
  • No residue left behind and no clean-up required
  • Minimal ongoing maintenance requirements

Outcome

The installation of the AMFE system delivered effective early fire suppression, significantly reducing the risk of fire escalation within the electrical cabinets. Critical electrical infrastructure was protected without introducing the risk of secondary damage often associated with traditional suppression methods.

As the clean agent leaves no residue, the end user avoided clean up requirements and was able to minimise downtime and business interruption. The project also demonstrated the strength of Delta Fire’s partnership first approach, with the contractor able to retain the customer relationship while drawing on Delta Fire’s specialist expertise. This enabled them to offer a more complete, high value solution without introducing competing services.

This project highlights Delta Fire’s ability to support contractors with specialist fire suppression solutions that protect critical assets, reduce operational risk and deliver confidence to end users.
